The Organisational Change Diagnostic™ – Understand the conditions influencing change in your organisation

Executive Assessment | Employee Insights | Strategic Action

Organisational change is often measured through implementation milestones, budgets and delivery schedules. Yet the conditions that influence whether people understand, engage with, adopt and sustain change are not always examined with the same rigour.

The Organisational Change Diagnostic™ provides a structured way to assess those conditions, bringing together leadership perspectives, employee experiences and organisational evidence to identify strengths, potential gaps and opportunities for continuous improvement.

Understand the conditions influencing change in your organisation

Executive Assessment | Employee Insights | Strategic Action

Organisational change is often measured through implementation milestones, budgets and delivery schedules. Yet the conditions that influence whether people understand, engage with, adopt and sustain change are not always examined with the same rigour.

The Organisational Change Diagnostic™ provides a structured way to assess those conditions, bringing together leadership perspectives, employee experiences and organisational evidence to identify strengths, potential gaps and opportunities for continuous improvement.

Developed by Anne McDowell, Master of Change, Leadership and Resilience, The Organisational Change Diagnostic™ draws on more than three decades of expertise in organisational change, leadership development, adult learning and human behaviour.

What does the diagnostic examine?

The assessment explores seven interconnected dimensions that influence organisational change:

  1. Strategic Clarity – The clarity of purpose, direction and priorities
  2. Leadership Alignment – The consistency and alignment of leadership decisions and behaviours
  3. Human Impact – How change affects people, roles and workforce experience
  4. Change Readiness – The organisational conditions supporting engagement and preparedness
  5. Capability – The knowledge, skills and practical support required to navigate change
  6. Adoption and Resistance – How new practices are understood, adopted and embedded
  7. Reputation and Sustainability – The organisational risks and conditions influencing lasting outcomes

Together, these dimensions provide a broader perspective on the human and organisational factors influencing change.

From assessment to informed action

The Independent Organisational Edition enables organisations to administer The Organisational Change Diagnostic™ internally, without requiring an externally facilitated consulting engagement. The system brings together a 49-statement organisational assessment and an Employee Change Experience Survey™, supported by an Excel-based analysis and executive reporting tool.

Results help decision-makers examine areas of relative strength, identify matters requiring closer investigation and establish priorities for organisational improvement. Rather than prescribing predetermined solutions, the diagnostic supports informed executive judgement and organisational accountability.

What is included?

  • Organisational Assessment: 49 statements across seven diagnostic dimensions
  • Employee Change Experience Survey™: Structured employee perspectives, with workbook capacity for up to 100 respondents
  • Scoring and Analysis System: Excel-based calculations, dimension profiles and comparative results
  • Executive Reporting: Interpretation prompts, statement-level evidence review and priority identification
  • Strategic Action Planning: An action register to document organisational priorities, responsibilities and next steps
  • Purchaser Guidance: Instructions for administration, interpretation and application

Who is it designed for?

The Organisational Change Diagnostic™ is suitable for organisations undertaking transformation, restructuring, operational change, workforce transition or other significant organisational initiatives.

It is particularly relevant to executive leadership teams, boards, human resources leaders and organisational development professionals seeking a structured way to examine the human dynamics of change alongside operational considerations.
